What Is The Problem With Call Of Duty Games

Is there something wrong with Call of Duty games? Not much. Wait a second, come to think about it, there is something wrong with MW 3. Its the time frame. I can play through it quick, which sucks for a game I love so much. You can be done it in around 20 hours, probably less.

When looking at games like Skyrim, which is essentially an FPS combined with RPG, it will take you 200 hours to finish the main story lines.

And because of its free roaming capability, and advanced AI that gives real life and randomness to NPCs, you have thousands of hours of game play waiting for you, and it is a bit cheaper than Call of Duty games.

Lets say the player in Skyrim wants to stay away from the main quest line. This is easily done. There is always something to do no matter where you go in the game.

I have the feeling that Call of Duty games are getting shorter and shorter. The success of Modern Warfare has made the developers to think less about the player and more about the money. I ask the question: is Modern Warfare 3 really that different from MW 2?

Not so for Skyrim! No they care about their players. They have put out a truly innovative game building upon its predecessor: Oblivion. This was not done for Modern Warfare 3, why? I’ll tell you why

You can break down games into two categories. One is an alley game, the other is an Island game. If you look at Call of Duty games you will notice that they are Alley games. The boundaries in alley games are close, very close. In this case the player is led down a certain constrained path.

Boundaries are not immediately perceptible in Island games, and are often referred to as sandbox games, popular for RPGs. It might take you all day to walk to one.

What’s my point? Games like Modern Warfare would be made like Island games that would be way more interesting, maybe a little less exciting, but would increase play time. It is obvious that multi-player and survival mode, is were the hours of play time can be found in Call of Duty.

Making an FPS like this would give the player the power to determine the way the game will evolve. Maybe you could call it a cross-genre RPS. Does it have to be RPG? No, but we should be able to build on your combat skills.

Hold on. Obviously alley games are scripted way easier, and thus heightens the drama of the game play. I still love MW 2 and 3. FPS games are fun and Modern Warfare is one of the best one going. I just think it is time to start thinking outside the box for once, before we have to fork out another 70 dollars.

Since the combat is still FPS, I like to play Skyrim. I would suggest you do get the Call of Duty games, and make sure you get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and 3. They are a lot of fun
